The Anthologies
Hello, I have recently written two more books of poetry, the first is called "A" after the title poem, and the second is called 'Verse's Mantle'. They are both fairly short books but as always I wrote them as the muse came and from the heart and mind, they are both available at:
http://amazon.com/author/d.n.read
I am planning on releasing a new one fortnightly, maybe more, when inspiration comes it comes you know, but at the very least monthly. If you get them I truly hope you enjoy them, and some feedback from the public instead of critics would be more than welcome, good or bad. We cannot grow without constructive criticism I've always found. I'll never sell out due to pressure mind you, if I did my stuff wouldn't be worth reading. Happy New Year to everyone everywhere.

25th Flourish
My latest painting, I did this late Christmas day, one of those hour long flourishes where you just have to create something, odd, I may use it as the cover for my next book of poetry.

Consider This
Hello, consider this; how many times have you heard or read on someones blog or anywhere else on the internet for that matter, folk with the same skeptical tones in resounding unison say "Yeah but that's all people do ever do...talk, nobody actually ever does anything, they just complain"? Answer...quite a lot I'm sure. These people have a very valid point which I'll get to in a minute, but first, how many of you agree with this? Most of you yes, me too. This is of course true, people do complain a great deal whether they be the ones that rattle on but don't actually say a great deal or the ones that genuinely care about the world and wish to spread their message...because of the latter, I for one will keep reading. Now consider this; we have freedom of speech to a certain degree true, however if we say anything that upsets the wrong or right people, depending on how you view these things, then we are quickly accused of inciting civil unrest or worse, when all we actually do is speak the truth in a stifled world of half truths and injustice, we know we're doing the right thing, very noble I'm sure you'll all agree? Well actually, no, we're not doing the right thing, noble it is to be sure, anyone doing anything for the sake of a more unified and peaceful world can be nothing but noble (unless they're the nutters that think blowing up civilians is all in the name of peace, they can *#!k off, terrorism is never acceptable!) but unfortunately just complaining is what they hope you'll do. If you're on the internet doing what I'm doing now then you're not outside their door, you're not protesting in your thousands on the streets, you're just making noise and sadly they have very powerful earplugs. These places on the internet will always be invaluable for spreading the word but we need to combine this new technology with the ways of our Mothers and Fathers, you've all seen the footage of protests in the 60's and 70's I'm sure. If you want peace then spread the word faster than ever before via the internet, tell people of a march for peace, meet in your thousands, your hundreds of thousands, if you shut down a city through sheer numbers you'll sting those at the top where it hurts them most, believe me when I say, even a traffic jam of half an hour costs them huge amounts of money, so if we're on the streets baying for peace for days (and being civilized, you militant few) it will cost them a lot.
However, for those of you at the top who think I'm inciting trouble, think again, as you would have it, I'm just venting from the safety of my front room...sucks huh! Always a pleasure to play your game your way. Seeya!

Remember, peaceful protest is the only righteous way.

Free Style Bought
Write free style for a while,
fire up blood of ink,
verse or two to bring a smile,
typing as I think.
Throw them out,
line them up,
whisper to keys,
filling the cup.
Overflowing,
hear heart beats,
wander wild words,
leaving your seat.
If these letters,
had a beat,
when you stood,
you'd move those feet.
I won't trap you people,
with wayward tunes,
whistle while reading,
breakfast bowl tap spoons.
Invent your own,
up beat lick,
or tap it blues,
whatever sticks.
I have some strings,
I play so bad,
but I got lyrics,
so not so sad.
Go fire it up,
inside your mind,
here my words,
I hope you find.
Country lane,
town centre park,
even your dog,
digs poet's bark.
Down by the river,
shore of sea,
get you there,
set voices free.
While you're styling,
spare a thought,

Britain's Ancient Law (learn from the past oh government)
This day new born,
long living sun,
immortal smiling light,
new grinding gauntlet run.
Left limping country lane,
limping right turn town,
modern pointless must,
face returns the smoggy frown,
fumes of rushing race,
island struggles not to drown.
Morning news began vile muse,
I am become vexation's freak,
try not to light petulance fuse,
synonym's ill tempered pique,
argue licentia vatum,
anger's ill verse doth speak.
Pick up a paper,
put it back,
always somewhere,
someone's attack,
paper pushing hate dealers,
publicise some morals slack.
Happily then friends are seen,
many races of one nation,
hopeful thought begins to gleam,
this kingdom of acceptance,
Albion's ancient dream.
Here where multiculture works,
heed not scare monger fear,
crush intolerance with truth,
again our duty clear,
it's hate Britain won't tolerate,
this island's heart is dear.
So on this day that shines,
not all is as you see,
we are fired up and angry,
not with each other but with thee,
there is a line don't cross it,
or you'll see then what is meant,
by don't fuck with 'WE THE PEOPLE',
you're just a few in government,
true democracy must return,
lest from you all power is rent.
The fire of your own making burns,
anger with each other, just a vent,
make no mistake the tide will turn,
upon you our eye is bent,
law of our forebears will return,
ancient message, modern sent.
I am exercising my freedom of speech and not inciting rebellion.
Papers preach violence between faiths whose entire structures are founded on peace.
Christians, Muslims and nearly all other religion at some point speaks of the acceptance of the beliefs of others, of respect between all regardless of race, religion, colour or creed, don't let the twists of greed sent by those in power to influence the true and original message of all of our prophets confuse you and turn you into what you are not, all people are created equal. The vast majority of us are more good than bad.
Peace, Love, Acceptance, Charity, Understanding, Brother and Sisterhood working to a common goal, a better way for humanity. Pride and the need to express personal and cultural opinion is fine as long as it does not become the sort of pride that leads to ignorance of others, hate for the ideals of others and the sense of self worth over others. Pride leading to vanity or pride leading to forcing your beliefs on others is in every faith a sin. NOWHERE does it say in ANY religion's teachings that it's a sin to respect the beliefs of others. You don't have to follow another persons beliefs to respect them. If they are reaching the same end by a different road, let them, live and let live. Great Britain, to all of you out there that think you own the place (I'm genetically proven to be of ancient British stock by the way, that means first nation British to any that do not understand) has been colonised since the dawn of mankind, the British public has been made up of the blood of this entire world for longer than recorded history, that is why multiculturalism works better here than anywhere else in the world, most of the British public know this and are proud to have been made strong this way, I would advise the trouble making minority to keep that in mind.

Contemplation Of The Sands
Desert blown mystic mist,
tumbling sands of roving sun,
shadows tell your passing,
with dunes though never one.
The grain upon a lizard tail,
tales of reptile life,
brushed to killing hawk feathers,
gecko blood on beak like knife.
Soaring sand child seaward,
drop from thermal height,
roll among the mighty waves,
be part of oceans might.
Stuck upon a surfer,
sliding clean into the blue,
ride a wetsuit hanging car,
shimmer in sunshine I saw you.
Contemplation of the sands,
music of the traveled few,
captured second of the eye,
poetry's unraveled view.

Serendipity Frozen
They gather high,
this frozen night,
in wind trees sigh,
just out of sight.
The scented air,
chilling bones,
the path we dare,
leaving our homes.
Daunting clouds,
rolling forth,
the first one seen,
by light of torch.
Water's wayward,
form crystalline,
white ice feathers,
natural design.
Whipped with wind,
under our peeks,
brim no protection,
faces they seek.
They bring our smiles,
a warm heart grows,
the dark nights bright,
each time it snows.
Foolish dark fear,
taken away,
evening's landscape,
seen as strange day.
We wander far,
fur stops the bite,
serendipity frozen,
in memory's sight.

Hello, I hope you enjoyed the last painting I posted. Here is another. The 11th of November is on the way and as such it always makes me think and respectfully remember those who fell for their countries and those who continue to do so. I painted this, 'Where ever he goes the Poppy's grow'. Don't forget your poppy's good people.

Got The Going's On Going On
Hello, I hope you enjoyed my last post. I have been concentrating on my writing extremely hard of late, hence why the blogs I post are becoming more sporadic. I have been taking a great deal of photographs too and painting, a lot of painting. A veritable flood of creativity has been flowing, it's wonderful. Here are just a few examples.

Here Is More
Hello, as promised, here is more. I let you all know I was going on a trip to the west of Britain for a while to do what I do, what I did not say is that I've been wrapping up the writing of another book, I shan't rattle on about all that, I just thought I'd let you know. It's been good, it drove me a bit crazy for spell, it made me incredibly happy and absolutely vexed at the same time and I did happen to learn a great deal as well, which is always highly important and also a constant of existence, at least...one would rather hope it is. I have been working on the art for the cover of my book as I always do but this time there are no pictures inside it, it's solely about the words this time. Here are a few pictures taken on the trip, I hope you enjoy them. When everything has settled I shall give you more, dedicating oneself fully to what you do is sometimes necessary and so when I've finished the last parts of the process of getting a book together (attaining courage enough to send your heart on paper out of the door) I'll get back to giving you something more creative. I thank you for your patience.

There Shall Be More
Hello, I have returned from my travels full of vigor and vim, also, I am most suitably inspired, in fact the well is overflowing as a veritable cornucopia of ideas and musings. I have a few things to catch up on around ye olde homestead first and then I shall begin to put together some various writings poetry and paintings that I've already done (while away) and those which I have not yet created. Here is a little bit of what's to come;
Duel Page Vision
Watching wayward wisps,
Smoke contemplation,
Rising high at pass of night,
Beginning dewdrops dawn,
Muse rising high with waking sun,
Ascend to last nocturnal star,
Flashing creations vision,
Scorching brand of words to mind,
The fire not quenched by ink alone,
Paint the final soothing force,
Extinguished duel page vision's,
Setting free this morn's first thought.

Soon Upon Return
Hello, I hope you enjoyed the last blog I posted. I have not been adding anything more over the last couple of days as I have been extremely busy writing. When the call comes, I answer. I have also been preparing for a trip west, I'm not entirely sure where we are going yet, the usual and the unusual I think. We go to live free and be inspired, to love all that nature has to offer, to pay homage upon the Moorlands, to swim in the mighty autumn sea's and feast under the stars, to dance as wind blown wisps of sand curling from the dunes, leaping through the fire light chasing beach reflection's moon...when we have done this and much more, I shall post again.

Spider's and Butterfly's
Hello, I hope you enjoyed yesterday's post. Today has been a creatively productive day, the flow that was lost has returned, to the extent where I've written poetry, taken some wonderful pictures and produced some interesting images and on top of that I've been picking up my harmonica a playing well between projects or my guitar and playing badly, but you know what the most important thing about all this is? I've enjoyed doing it the way I used to before the confusion, I've been breathing inspiration and exhaling artistic expression, it's been beautiful, and it's only 18.36 where I am.
The key good people is to get inspired, and as I managed to teach myself for the second time, don't get wrapped up in your own thoughts, it is definitely not a good idea to think to much. Free your mind and tail should follow.

Spiders and Butterfly's
Heavy web damp weaving,
sag in dawning dew,
tightening noose with sunrise,
all spider's yesterdays he slew,
sideways infinite eyes,
still dead watching you,
beauty's disguise hypnotise,
watching for the few,
taking wing to curious close,
end the days you flew,
butterfly the spider's web,
flown full circle true,
he wraps you tight your birth alike,
return to deaths cacoon,
life a mirrored weaving web,
breathe again somewhere else soon.

Unchained September Visions
Hello, I hope you enjoyed yesterday's post, the wonderful conclusion of the ongoing riddle. This day, as you'll doubtlessly be aware of if you've read my last few posts, is a day free from the riddle I had set for myself, free from the constraints of my own mind and I am thus ready to drink deeply of the cup offered up a new day. I have, as a result of this, had a marvelous day creatively, I've seen many sights of note while wandering the banks of the Isis (River Thames) and took the opportunity to take some photographs of all the day has had to offer. The wildlife, even on this murky day of angry clouds and constantly damp air has been busy.
I watched this heron fishing for an absolute age, the trick to photographing these gorgeous birds is to remain a still as them. He waits stone statue still, the slightest movement drawing his attention, the perfect moment is something that cannot be rushed, to strike to soon would mean failure and to the heron, an empty stomach, to me it only means a missed opportunity and hours of waiting for another shot, which is actually no hardship at all as I saw plenty of other natural wonders while I was waiting for this one. I took a lot of pictures of trees today as well, some of which I shall leave as simple pictures of trees others I shall work with to create some of my own visions on canvas.

I have mentioned in previous blogs you can create some wonderfully
I have mentioned in previous blogs you can create some wonderfully
strange images, this as you can also see is how I came across certain
ideas for my paintings.
It is a bit of an obsession I must admit,
however I do love the ways colour can
completely change the entire feel of a
photographic reproduction.
The picture above takes on a dark, almost ominous feel
with intense contrasts between red and black, whereas
the original below shows the natural, soft and beautiful
image.
The same can certainly be said when speaking of
man made structures, the effect could be said
to be even more intense due to the definitive lines
imposed by the architectural nature of the subject,
the natural always airing on the softer side.
When attempting this effect the subject
matter is of vital importance as well,
using the example of the bridge is all
very well but when the image is of something
a touch on the macabre side to begin with the effect
is all the more poignant.
These ruins being in my opinion, a fine example
of the latter.

The Mirror Behind The Door
Hello, I hope you enjoyed yesterday's post. I have been rather vague about things in my last few posts as I have been struggling with this blasted riddle that I'm sure you're getting as frustrated and at the same time intrigued by, well I at least I hope you're intrigued. This then is what I've been waiting for, a breakthrough, a huge sigh of relief and not to mention the fact that I can now move on just a little bit wiser than before. I say wiser, however seeing things a touch clearer than before would be a rather more accurate appraisal of my previous plight. This is because it was so mind crushingly simple that I completely overlooked it. I have been known in days past to utter the words, "Try not to think too much", and of course while I was busy saying this I walked straight toward this particular pitfall and stumbled in ankles-n-all, with all the blind benevolence one can muster whilst being right about something...fool...did I mention a touch of arrogance. Still, this being in the past, having learned a valuable lesson and also having sufficiently chastised myself for it, I can now enlighten you as to how I discovered all this. I was reading through some of my note books when I came across a poem I had written on the first night Daisy, the love of my life, who I have no doubt mentioned before and myself, met with my Brother and his son together with my Mother and Father, at the families retreat in the west country. The poem in question had some other writings after the verse, personal thoughts on the poem I'd just written, which were obviously important to me at the time and of unmeasurable importance to me now. Here it is, including the passage I had scratched out at the bottom of the page.
First Day Holiday
The road ahead with Daisy sped,
family already weaved that thread,
at happy tear caravan,
one boy, two women and three called man.
From Oxfordshire in England,
crossed following setting sun,
westward travel four hours done,
bent on laughter's feast of fun,
first night two brothers had a drink,
all others sleeping on the brink,
before sleep smoke pipe with moon and think,
when this day's hours came light,
we fished for Trout, a hungry fight.
The young one learned many a skill,
and unless you eat it never kill,
the afternoon came on soon,
we float to sea on surfer's swoon.
In the evening by harbor light,
fish-n-chips in town that's oh so bright,
there we saw art and played our part,
vow to leave before my own flow's start.
So ends this the first day,
of a trip with much to say,
of Family and Daisy's play,
I'll end it here as so I may.
Note to any; Poems such as the one above I write to begin the flow,
for some reason I need five minutes to connect mind to pen.
Some are good, some are bad and as with all things, some land in the middle.
This one is bad writing, but...a true and a good memory...to me, it is good, it is for me.
This is the thing I was looking for over the last few days, the link in the chain of my thoughts that I had managed to misplace, the key to the door I had locked the answer to my riddle behind. I have since unlocked the door and discovered a mirror standing in the doorway...the truth of it all was always standing there looking at me, all I had to do was open my eyes.
